KPRC recently asked Emily Taylor to come on the air in Houston, TX to discuss how the new law passed in Texas granting legal carry rights for young people is changing the game for hundreds of college students who have decided they want to carry firearms to protect themselves. Emily, a noted attorney for gun law issues, highlighted that young adults seeking out licenses to carry are generally responsible and have been contacting her office in droves hoping to follow the law correctly. Emily cited the rising confidence in the Second Amendment and the growing violent crime wave has driven new interest in gun ownership in Texas. When asked about the rules regarding college campuses, Emily confirmed that 19-21-year-old students seeking a concealed carry permit will be allowed to carry inside the buildings of public universities if they are properly licensed to do so, and if the campus isn’t marked as a no gun zone. Additionally, private universities can opt out of campus carry altogether. Emily also weighed in on the city of Houston’s previous, quote-unquote, gun buyback programs when she stated that it solves no problems and is the opposite of what we need to be doing. The interview concluded with Emily fielding questions on gun sales, the impact of liberal judges in the prosecutor’s office, and the Biden administration’s rules affecting firearms and accessories which have been legal up until very recently.
